Blackouts, Floods, And Tornadoes as Irene Lashes New York!

New York was this morning in the eye of the storm as Hurricane Irene swept into the city, forcing an unprecedented shutdown, ripping trees from the ground and leaving millions without power. Manhattan was turned into a ghost town as the streets were deserted after the hurricane smashed its way up the East Coast before descending on the Big Apple.
Heavy rains raised fears of severe flooding and 200,000 New Yorkers were left without power, mainly residents on Staten Island, Queens and the outer suburbs as the hurricane ripped through the city.
I just want to say I'm Thank-Full that its not a hurricane anymore so there wasn't much damage, because the impact could have been very severe!

It is amazing how fair warning went out into a major metropolitan area in a timely fashion making the numbers of lives and injuries a minimum. Had Irene hit NYC the way it was predicted there would have been major negative long lasting economical effects on the city.
