Nicki Minaj Talks About Being Labeled ‘As A Sell Out’ + Performing AT The 2012 All Star Game!
February 26, 2012GWL StaffNicki Minaj was spotted yesterday in a pair of colorful leggings at LAX airport with her boyfriend Safaree aka her Hype-man as they were rushing to board a flight to Orlando.
Although, it looked as though she was attempting to be camera shy, which is quite difficult when you are running through an airport with pink and blonde hair and big furry Fendi boots. Later on today, Nicki is scheduled to perform a medley of four songs as the players are introduced during the 2012 NBA All-Star Game.

This past week, the young money princess blast her critics (including Hot 97′s Peter Rosenberg who called her a sell out) with her newest single, ‘Roman Reloaded‘. After the record was released, she went on Hot 97 with Funkmaster Flex to discuss whether she felt pressured to come out with another hot rap track after all of the criticism from Hip Hop fans.
I would hope that people know at this point that I’m smart enough to know what I’m doing. I always intended putting out something urban right after ‘Starship’ because I knew ‘Starship’ was a monster. I didn’t feel the pressure to be honest. I feel really, really good. I feel like Hip-Hop cares enough that they have something to say and I remember when I was hoping that somebody had something to say about me on the radio or cared enough. Maybe it would be a problem if I couldn’t deliver records like ‘Roman Reloaded’, but I can. Once again, I write my own lyrics so it’s never a problem. Whatever I feel … I can write and I can create it, so I’m good.
I think that people sometimes get blown away by the magnitude of the pop stuff because the pop stuff reaches every where. Then I feel like my Hip-Hop fans or Hip-Hop culture starts getting a little bit afraid that I’m going to leave but this is who I am. I’m not going to change. I’ve just added on to my brand and if you don’t understand that then it’s probably why you don’t travel, you don’t see the world and I probably can’t even have a conversation with you anymore.
[Roman Reload] is not about anyone in particular. My fans, they’re voices are the loudest voices. A critic has never meant a thing to me and that’s why I keep winning. So we’re really good on this side Flex and ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” drops April 3rd and the Barbz and Romanz Empire will be good, really good.

I can't believe her style sells. Between Lady Gaga, Katy, Rhirhi and her - very disrespectful. If they had real talent - they wouldn't have to sell themselves as street walking singers. But I guess that sells among these cyber baby idiots - who post their lives on a computer day after day after day. What a bunch of cl*****less h03's most of the singers are today.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Hip Hop have to cross over? You don't see much crossing over in Country, Gospel, Rock, Blues and many other music genres. The beauty of Hip Hop is it's raw and rugged nature. Why do so many artists today feel the need to create a Hip Pop sound once they hit the mainstream?
ReplyDeleteshe did sell out
ReplyDeletePeter is not lying!
ReplyDeleteI agree!! afterseeing one of her older videos before she made it, she was a beast. I was listening to her spit and was like WTF happened to her, she bleached got some injections, her nose and teeth fixed and now she brand new. Hip hop does not need to cross over, thats what this big wigs are telling artist to lose them selves, she has talent but all of her "gimicks" are wack. She is a sell out, but what else would you expect coming from young money, Gremlin aka little wayne, talking about light skin, light is right etc. the whole group is wack, they making money because they are sellingout to young white kids who sad to say have certain beliefs about minorties. YM sucks!! believe that. Damn i miss hip hop. This is what out future holds, YIKES!!

ReplyDeleteHip hop has been crossing over for years and if you haven't realized that you all are SAD
ReplyDeletePop music is really just popular music so in a way anything that is hot at this time is POP music.
Actually ALL genres cross over to pop. Its about broadening your audience! Its called popular music for a reason! The more you can get played on pop stations, the bigger he record sales, and the bigger the concert venues. Crossing over is and always has been about money so artists who have the ability and charisma to make that move do it 95% off the time.
ReplyDeleteJ.Cole said it best "You can play the game, or watch the game play you. And be that broke mother****er talkin bout 'I stayed true'.."
Its always about dollar signs and she's gettin it.
This is comin from someone who hates Nicki's music but she def ain't a "sell out"! Shit she's smart!!! Lol
