According to the Daily Beast, Oxygen will be announcing the cancellation of the show in the upcoming week. Maybe they should visit some sports betting sites in the meanwhile. And one of the petition creator's Sabrina Lamb (Change.org), states that the show would have been a horrific example of life for a certain group of people. She told the Daily Beast:
“I love that the people who’ve signed the petition are from all backgrounds, ages, and countries. This one elderly white man wrote me and said even he was tired of the stereotypical images of black people.’’
“This show is about more than a rapper and his girlfriends. This is a show about kids who had no choice in how they came into the world. This show sets them up to be ridiculed and made fun of. None of us should be OK with that.’’There is still no word from (ColorofChange) who also launched a second petition shortly after hearing about the show and how it will portray black families.
Here's what Rashad Robinson (Executive Director of ColorofChange.org) told GWL:
“The creators of ‘All My Babies' Mamas’ claim that this show is ‘daring.’ But there is nothing daring about Oxygen's decision to invest in and promote inaccurate and harmful perceptions of Black families for the sake of ratings and advertising dollars.
ColorOfChange has a long track record of holding the media accountable for race-baiting and it is important for us to begin a broader discussion about the effects of dehumanizing portrayals.” Robinson continued, “Today we are sending a strong message to Oxygen, its president, Jason Klarman, and others in the media that traffic in these type of portrayals that we wont sit silently by while corporations and individuals profit from degrading and inflammatory images of our community."Um okay!

Is it me or did they make televisions 4 ENTERTAINMENT!?!??purposes?damn we should be more serious in our REAL lifes than bout REALITY T.V or just turn your fuckn t.v off & live your life the way u like!!...
ReplyDeleteOn one hand, I feel bad that Shawty-Lo will be losing out on a decent source of income that would provide for all of his children. On the other, I do believe these types of shows are promoting negative stereotypes about a culture that is in no way, shape or form as one-sided as the media would have others believe. We as a people ought to try to take responsibility as possible for how we, and people like us, are portrayed
ReplyDeleteI think the show would have been a success because many people are curious as to how this blended family works, i.e. Sister Wives... They should hv been petitioning Trayvon Martin, high death rates in Chicago...not a tv show.
ReplyDeleteI see this coming a mile away. The people have spoken. army green
