May 13, 2013GWL StaffOn what seems like a peaceful day of giving thanks to moms, turned into a bloody crime scene that left 19 people injured in New Orleans on Sunday (May 12th).
According to reports, 400 people attended a Mother's Day parade in New Orleans, which spanned approximately 1.5 miles from the heart of the French Quarter, to the nearby neighborhood of Treme.
“These are unusual circumstances. We have second lines which occur in the city of New Orleans virtually every weekend at this time of the year. We had a full complement of police officers. It appears that these two or three people just for a reason unknown to us, started shooting at towards, or in the crowd. It was over in just a couple seconds.”He then added:
"These kinds of incidents will not go unanswered. Somebody knows something. The way to stop this violence is for you all to help."New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is saying this incident is a prime example of the "rentless drum beat of violence" in the city.
So far, no one has been been arrested for the crime. And police personnel's are currently reviewing surveillance tapes after one shooter, between the ages of 18 to 22 years-old, was seen wearing a white T-shirt and jeans shorts--attempting to flee the scene.
