The 56th annual Grammy Awards is set to take place this Sunday, January 26 at 8pm ET.
It’s been a wild year in music, from the on-the-stage (and off) antics of Miley Cyrus to the continued growth of digital music alternatives, as well as the emergence of some new artists in music who have taken the world by storm, including Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who were the most-played artists on Spotify in 2013, rapper Kendrick Lamar, who is up for seven nominations this year, and Ed Sheeran, who was nominated for a Grammy last year, among others.
"This year's nominations reflect the talented community of music makers who represent some of the highest levels of excellence and artistry of the year in their respective fields," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy, in a statement.
