Last night's 56th annual Grammy Awards was an emotional show after 33 couples were able to get married for the first time on national TV due to same-sex marriage being legal in the state of California.

The mass wedding ceremony, officiated by actress Queen Latifah, brought many celebrities to tears and joy, during rapper Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Mary Lambert's "Same Love" performance inside the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Shortly after the couples (straight, gay, and of different ethnicities -- lined off between the audience) said their 'I Do's" and were officially newly-weds, pop superstar Madonna then made a surprise appearance on stage to lend her vocals to the band's Grammy nominated track.

American Idol judge Keith Urban was also filmed in tears running down his face. Queen Latifah, the band, Madonna and Grammy officials have dub tonight's show, "a show that made history."

DJ and producer Ryan Lewis described the night as, “A night that is already tremendous for me, for the music, but to have my sister get married and my family there watching it — that makes it a whole other level of amazing.”
