Tia Mowry Dishes On Being A New Mom, Turning 35, And Her Role On ‘Instant Mom’

Actress and "Tia & Tamera" reality star, Tia Mowry recently sat down with Essence magazine to dish on turning 35, life as a new mom to 2-year-old son Cree, and her role on new TV sitcom, "Instant Mom."

Tia explained to the magazine how her character, Stephanie, (a party-girl who marries an older man with children and is forced to become the best step-mother while trying to find balance), and her real life job as a parent are quite similar.

"We all know at the end of the day you can't just be friends with your kids, because you give them an inch they take a mile. So it's trial and error with her. We're not perfect. Being a mother and a parent does not come with a handbook."

She further explains:

"I think when we're new moms you have this perfect schedule and you want everything to go perfectly," says Tia. You just want everything to go right. I love how the show gives me flexibility."

"It's great for families because it's very predictable and the hours aren't that long, especially when you're working with kids you have to get in and get out. I'm like, 'Oh, we're done?, I get to come home and be with my son?'

And with juggling reality TV and business ventures (including a new movie, 'Baggage Claim' now in theaters) and getting a long with her twin sister, Tamera Mowry, she also talked about turning 35.

"I feel like there's so much more to accomplish. I have admitted that I'm a workaholic. I love what I do. I love being able to escape from reality and be able to dive into a character and perfect that character and become that character. For some reason it's all I know so it's what I live and breathe for but there's so much more that I want to do. I want to continue to do film."

"My sister and I, it was a challenged getting Sister Sister. A lot of people don't know that the show hadn't gotten picked up until the last minute, " Tia reveals. "There are more challenges out there. I want to get into meatier roles and I want to continue to get into my brand that my sister and I have."

The starlet also dished on celebrating her birthday in New Mexico with her son and husband:

"My son's birthday is June 28th so we celebrated it together and we went to this amazing place. It's an organic lavender farm in Albuquerque and it was just nice and quiet."

"We like doing normal things because our lives are so hectic and busy. I value normalcy and so to be able to just bring it down and focus on being a normal family, that's what we did and I enjoyed it so much."

Nice! Be sure to check out Tia's new sitcom, "Instant Mom" on Nick@Nite tonight!
