Mary J. Blige Sings National Anthem at the 2013 World Series + Critic BASHES Mary's Vocals ..."She's Lost Her Touch" [Video]
October 25, 2013GWL StaffThis week, R&B soul legend and ninetieth-time Grammy-award winning singer Mary J. Blige was tapped to belt out the Nation Anthem at the 2013 MLB World Series for round one between the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox at Boston's Fenway Park.
This is not the first time Mary has performed at the World Series. Back in 2009, the songstress, who is the first honoree of the VIBE Impact Awards, sang her heart out for Game six of the World Series between the Philadephia Phillies and the NY Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
Check out her performance below:
However, an analyst for the NYTimes didn't think this was one of Blidge's best performance ever. Here's what Jim Luttrell had to say:
“I’m definitely no music critic, and I don’t have strong feelings about Mary J. Blige either way. But I get the feeling that if she had been on ‘The Voice,’ no one would’ve turned their chairs around after that performance of ‘The National Anthem.’ That high note was just painful.”Ouch! Plus, last week Mary released her eleventh studio album, "A Mary Christmas."
