On Sunday night, the Seattle Seahawks won their FIRST Super Bowl title in an overpowering fashion by defeating Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos 43-8.

According to Sports Illustrated, last night's game -- inside New Jersey's MetLife Stadium -- was one of the NFL's stingiest with the Seahawks disarming the highest-scoring offense in league history.

In the history of Super Bowl, no game had been played outdoors in a cold-weather city before - not that the Big Apple was anything close to frozen Sunday, with a 49-degree temperature at kickoff.

The victory was particularly sweet for Pete Carroll, who was fired in 1994 by the Jets and held the late Vince Lombardi trophy, led the Patriots for three seasons and again was canned. After a short stint out of coaching, he took over at Southern California and won two national titles.

"This is an amazing team. Took us four years to get to this point but they never have taken a step sideways," said coach Carroll, who had Gatorade dumped on him by Russell Wilson during the closing moments of the Seahawks' win in Super Bowl XLVIII. "These guys would not take anything but winning this ballgame," he adds.

"It's not too crazy to us, because we knew what we had in our locker room," Percy Harvin said (via USA Today). "We knew how we prepared and we knew what we were capable of."

"At the end of the season, you want to play your best football. And that's what we did tonight," Russell Wilson said.

The loss by the Broncos again raised questions about Manning's ability to win the biggest games. "To finish this way was disappointing," Manning said. "It's a difficult pill to swallow."
