The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin was back in her element Monday night (Sept 12) at the nation’s capital. Franklin came to Washington to receive the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Founder’s AwardJennifer HudsonHerbie HancockColin Powell and Madeleine Albright were among the mixture of D.C. and Hollywood A-listers on hand to pay homage to Franklin and to the Institute, now in its 25th year.

You may have heard that Halle Berry was reported to be in the running to portray the singer for Franklin’s on-screen biopic:
“We’re hammering out the last details,” Franklin said of the project, which made headlines in January of this year when the non-singing Halle Berry sidestepped an offer to take on the role. That didn’t go over too well with Franklin, who grumbled to talk show host WendyWilliams that she “would like the person who is going to play me to be more confident.”
But Monday night in D.C., The Hollywood Reporter states that it was Aretha who exuded all the confidence.
Halle Berry,” she said. “I think Halle Berry’s gonna get it.”
Sounds like Aretha REALLY wants Halle to play her but is Halle the right thespian for the job?
