The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin was back in her element Monday night (Sept 12) at the nation’s capital. Franklin came to Washington to receive the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Founder’s Award. Jennifer Hudson, Herbie Hancock, Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright were among the mixture of D.C. and Hollywood A-listers on hand to pay homage to Franklin and to the Institute, now in its 25th year.
