Rashida Salaam filed a lawsuit today in federal court in Manhattan claiming Diddy's record label, Bad Boy, violated minimum wage laws by not paying interns. Apparently, Ms. Salaam doesn't grasp the concept of unpaid intern. The NY Post gives the details on what tasks unpaid interns were asked to do:
Among the tasks that Bad Boy honchos assign to interns are getting lunch and coffee for paid staffers, answering phones, gift wrapping presents, and decorating the firm's Broadway offices during the holidays, the suit says.Okay now, I'm lost! What do unpaid interns do if not these types of tasks? What did Ms. Salaam expect to be doing?
Sounds to me like a case of a high maintenance chick who thought she was going to be dancing in music videos and hanging out with famous artists all day. She clearly didn't want a job, she wanted a step stool for her own interests.
There has been no response from Diddy or Bad Boy Records to the lawsuit.
