The documentary series about Michael Sam, who is the first openly gay football player to get drafted into the NFL, that was scheduled to air on Oprah Winfrey's OWN network has now reportedly been cancelled.

Just two days after the announcement was made OWN's president, Erik Logan, sent out a statement to RumorFix regarding the program being postponed by saying:
"After careful consideration and discussion with the St. Louis Rams, The Untitled Michael Sam Project has been postponed, allowing Michael the best opportunity to achieve his dream of making the team. We will continue to support him in his journey to earn a OWN Logo Current spot playing for the Rams."

While he's gearing up for the upcoming season, Sam has already encountered some controversy after ESPN captured him kissing his boyfriend, Vito Cammisano moments after the NFL draft on Saturday.

To insure the best for his client, Sam’s agent, Cameron Weiss of Empire Athletes, explained the decision:
"After today’s meeting with the Rams, we collectively feel it is best to postpone the project. This will allow for Michael to have a total focus on football, and will ensure no distractions to his teammates. Everybody involved remains committed to this project and understands its historical importance as well as its positive message."

Plus the 24-year-old St. Louis Rams player's new "Number 10" shirt is in mass demand with tons of orders coming in. He also has full support from the LGBT community and President Obama who congratulated the player and Rams historic draft choice.
"From the playing field to the corporate boardroom, LGBT Americans prove everyday that you should be judged by what you do and not what you are," the president said.

ESPN reports that Sam's father Michael Sam Sr. is not so supportive of his son coming out the closet and had a few words for [Sam]. Sam Sr. told The New York Times that he received the news last Tuesday when his son wrote in a text: “Dad, I’m gay.”

Sam's father said he took the news really hard while having lunch at a Denny's restaurant and had to leave after receiving the text.
"I couldn’t eat no more, so I went to Applebee’s to have drinks," Sam Sr. told the NY Times on Sunday. "I don’t want my grand kids raised in that kind of environment.”
He described himself as “old-school,” and explained to the newspaper that the idea of a gay player in the NFL bothers him, even when that person could be his own son.
"[Sam Sr.] further explained to the newspaper that late Hall of Famer Deacon Jones, the leader of the Rams’ Fearsome Foursome who is credited with terming the word sack, “is turning over in his grave.”
He told the newspaper, however, that he loves his son and hopes he makes it into the NFL.
“As a black man, we have so many hurdles to cross. This is just one he has to cross,” Sam Sr. concluded.
